The Magic Bean and Red Hot Chili Peppers

This weekend we were introduced to two wonderful places to eat and spend time in Quito. Both are near the corner of Mariscal Foch and Juan lean Mera in the Mariscal Sucre tourist area.

The first was Friday night, were a number of teachers and staff members from the Experiment in International Living (El Experimento Convivial Internacional) where Lisa and I work went out for Mexican and Margaritas. Red Hot Chili Peppers was the destination, evidentally a favorite place of our English Director, Justin. You can easily see why. The Margaritas were exceptional, even my alcohol restricting wife thought enough about them to have an entire glass by herself (cutting down on my Maragarita enjoyment, since she only takes a sip or two and I get the rest of hers). the Mexican food was very good. I had chicken tacos. Not quite up to Mexican standards, of course, but excellent by both US and Ecuadorian standards.

Sunday we met up with a large group of Canadian visitors and headed to the Magic Bean. This is a hostel-restaurant that Lisa remembered from twelve years before. Excellent pancakes, big, light and tasty. Good American-style coffee and expresso. Grande portions. The ten of us had a marvelous time. They also offer internet service!

If you are in Quito, and have a little time, spend a couple sessions at the Red Hot Chili Pepper and the Magic Bean. You'll be happy you did!
